The Lotus Exige is a two-seat, two-door sports car developed by Lotus Cars. Essentially, it is a coupe edition of the Lotus Elise, which is a midsize roadster developed since 1996.

The new Exige was introduced in 2008 and was included with a 1.8 L Rover K Series engine in very high performance derivative tune. The engine generated 177 bhp (132 kW; 179 PS) in traditional form and 143 kW (192 bhp; 195 PS) in the “track spec” edition.

During 2006, the North American Lotus Exige was launched in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In the same year, Lotus revealed that the Exige S model was designed with a supercharged engine that could produce 220 bhp (164 kW; 223 PS) of power. In North America, the S model was launched in 2007.

Power-Train Specifications

The traditional Exige weighed about 2,016 lbs. It had the following specifications.

Coming to engine specifications,

• Exige was designed with a DOHC with VVTL-I engine, which was developed by Yamaha.
• The engine could evolve 138 ft-lbf (187 N-m) of torque at 6800 rpm and 190 hp (142 kW) of power at 7800 rpm, and
• The engine compression ratio was 11.5:1.

The engine was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a Single-Plate Dry Clutch. Talking about its fuel economy, with the help of transmission, the engine could achieve

• 29 miles per imperial gallon (9.7 L/100 km; 24 mpg) on highway and
• 24 miles per imperial gallon (12 L/100 km; 20 mpg) in city.

It took about 4.7 and 12.9 seconds to rise from 0 to 97 and 161 km/h respectively, and had the top speed of 147 miles per hour.

Exige S

The Exige S model of Lotus had several new provisions. It had a DOHC with VVTL-I inter-cooled and supercharged engine that could churn out 158.6 ft-lbf (215 N-m) of torque at 5500 rpm and 218 hp (162.5 kW) of power at 7800 rpm.

The engine was connected with a 6-speed automatic transmission. And, it required 4.1 and 9.98 seconds to speed up to 62 and 100 mph respectively, and it achieved a top speed of 148 mph (238 km/h).

During 2008, the Exige S was equipped with a standard engine, which could produce 240 bhp. The equipment was included with improved AP racing brakes and a larger roof scoop. The vehicle needed a time of four seconds to speed up from 0 to 60 mph.

During 2009, the Exige was provided in configurations such as S260 and S240. The S240 is the sustained 2008 model and weighs about 2,077 lbs (942 kg). It has a throughput of about 240 hp (180 kW), thanks to its supercharged engine. The S260 engine is very much improved to generate 257 hp (192 kW) of power and takes about four seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
